The picture presents the facts in logical space, the existence and non-existence of atomic facts.

Ilya — Designer, Vision, AI

design is the edge of what's next

A designer should stand on the frontier — not in the middle of the room.

Vision is not a prediction. It is a position. A claim about what matters and what must be built, taken before the evidence is in. The ordinary mind waits for clarity. The visionary creates it.

Most products are arguments about the past. The future is a shape that has to be drawn by hand. You do not arrive at it through consensus. You arrive at it by choosing what to ignore.

To design is to decide. Every pixel is a statement. Every omission, a conviction. Taste is the quiet refusal to make something that did not need to exist.

process is a form of thinking

Structure is not a cage. It is a lens that sharpens the work.

First principles, then frameworks. I start from the problem as it actually is, not the problem as it has been described. The brief is rarely the truth. The truth is found in the friction.

Speed and depth are not opposites. The fastest path to a good answer is to go deep early, not to iterate on something shallow. Quality compounds. Mediocrity accumulates debt.

Simplicity is the last thing you arrive at. Before it, there is discipline. Before discipline, taste. Craft is the discipline that remains when enthusiasm runs out.

you lead by raising the standard

A leader's job is to make better work inevitable, not optional.

A team inherits the ceiling of its leader. Raise the bar and people rise to it. Lower it and everything drifts. Taste is not trainable in a deck — it is transmitted in feedback, in the hundredth review, in the refusal to ship the almost-right answer.

I trade control for clarity. People do not need to be managed. They need to understand the problem. Once they see it fully, they will outrun me, and that is the point.

Care is strategy. People do their best work when someone sees them fully. Hold the standard with respect and they stay. Hold it without care and you lose the room.

a car is a space to think

The interface of a car is not a screen. It is a relationship.

Automotive is where scale meets trust. Mistakes live on the road, not in a retro. Every interaction is tested by a single moment of attention that cannot be rewound. The stakes make the craft honest.

A great in-car experience disappears into the drive. It reduces decisions, not adds them. The best interface is the one you did not notice using. Everything that draws attention has to earn it.

Cars used to be machines. They are becoming companions — ambient, context-aware, quietly present. Designing for them is designing for the second self. The one that shows up when you are already on your way.

ai is a new design material

Prompting is not a skill. Shaping intent is.

AI does not remove the designer. It raises what a designer is responsible for. The question shifts from how to what and why. Taste and judgment become the edge. Everything downstream is negotiable.

Every interface will soon be adaptive. The goal is not cleverness but fit — systems that feel like they were made for you, because in a sense they were. Personal does not mean loud. It means accurate.

Working with AI is working with a collaborator that never tires and never understands. The craft is in the framing. The vision is in what you refuse to automate.

design a future worth arriving at

The future is not a destination. It is something we practice.

The work shapes the person. Under NDA or not, the thinking is the portfolio. The method is the product. What I can show matters less than what I have chosen to care about.

I build with people I respect, on problems that resist. The rest follows. Recognition is a side effect of seriousness. Reputation is a side effect of taste held over time.

If the work does not point somewhere new, it is decoration. If it does, it is worth making. That is the only filter I trust.
